Which games are supported?

Tachyon works with games from Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and DRM-free installations, including titles installed from physical media. During the beta, we're actively building out game support and adding new titles regularly. If your favourite game isn't supported yet, email support@tachyon.gg and we'll prioritize it. Note: SteamOS/Proton games aren't supported yet, but full Steam Deck compatibility is planned for the future.

How is Tachyon different from Steam Cloud?

Steam Cloud is useful, but limited to supported Steam titles. Many popular games don't support it at all, and even when they do, there are no separate timelines or version history. Tachyon works with any PC game regardless of where you bought it. You get separate timelines for different playthroughs and full control over when and how syncing happens.

How does the timeline feature work?

A timeline is like having multiple save slots for the same game, but much more powerful. Each timeline keeps a completely separate set of saves, so you can have multiple playthroughs running at the same time without them interfering with each other. For example, you could have one timeline for a stealth run of Dishonored and another for high chaos, each with their own saves, settings, and progress. Timelines are also perfect for separating different modlists to prevent save corruption.

Will Tachyon slow down my games?

No. Tachyon is designed to run quietly in the background with minimal resource use. It won't affect your framerate or gaming experience, regardless of when syncing occurs.

Does this work with mod managers?

Yes! Tachyon's timeline feature is an excellent complement to mod managers. You can use separate timelines to keep different modded setups completely isolated, so your heavily modded playthrough never interferes with your vanilla saves. This prevents the corruption issues that often happen when switching between mod configurations.

Can I trust this with my 100-hour save?

Yes. Tachyon is built to protect high-value saves. If there's ever a sync conflict, it will never override your saves without your explicit consent. All your data is automatically backed up in the cloud, and Tachyon creates a local backup before every sync operation.

What happens if there's a sync conflict?

Accepted Answer

Sync conflicts are rare and most users will never encounter one. However, if a conflict does occur, Tachyon will pause syncing and let you choose which data to preserve. You're always in control. Syncing won't continue until you've resolved the conflict, ensuring nothing gets overwritten accidentally.

Can I use Tachyon offline?

You can play offline with local saves. Cloud sync and cross-device updates resume automatically when you're back online. Your local saves remain accessible at all times, regardless of connection status.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Tachyon requires a free account to back up and sync your saves. You can create one when you first launch the app.

How much storage space do I get?

Beta users get 7 days of play history, which is enough for typical save libraries. Exact post-beta storage plans will be published before pricing changes. Our goal is to keep it affordable for serious gamers.

The current public beta is Windows-focused (tested on Windows 10 and 11). Linux and macOS support are in progress. Steam Deck support is not yet available but is actively in development.
